Reaching, Teaching, Engaging

About Us

The Purpose of First Baptist Church is to join faithfully with God in reaching people for Christ, teaching them from God's Word and engaging them in ministry, worship and fellowship.

Celebrating Our History

On June 9, 1821, two prominent Georgia Baptist leaders, Jesse Mercer (founder of Mercer University) and Adiel Sherwood, organized what is now known as First Baptist Church of Greensboro. Work in the present sanctuary was completed in 1904.

Celebrating Our Heritage

First Baptist Church has always strongly supported missions. From the earliest years, missionaries have been sent from this church.  Along with native American  missions, workers have traveled to Africa, Brazil, Mexico and China.
In addition to strong missions support, First Baptist has enjoyed a strong pastoral heritage. Over forty faithful pastors have led First Baptist and ten young men have been ordained to preach the gospel.

Celebrating Our Hope

In September 2008, we dedicated a new three level multipurpose building. This addition allows First Baptist Church to offer ministries in new and exciting ways.

The goal of First Baptist Church is to win the lost to Christ and help mature believers in their Christian life. It is our hope that you have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. If not, you can have the same hope that has been ours down through the years.
